Ellen Sapienza “Flowers on the Mantle” Oil on Canvas 26″x30″
Ellen Sapienza is a core artist at SFA, with several one-woman exhibits and multiple group shows. She is a painter and printmaker who lives and works in Upper Black Eddy, PA. Ellen studied with Robert Kulicke, a painter and master frame-maker in 1987. Before that, she studied with Seymour Remnick, David Fertig and Sidney Goodman at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
“I work from life and always start with a visual stimulus, whether a landscape, a bouquet of flowers or a work of art. So my work is always some sort of response. Working from life is the anchor that allows great freedom to work more representational or more abstract. I enjoy the back and forth, up and down, successes and failures of the process of making art and want the viewer to see and experience this record of my decisions and discoveries.”
Lauren Kindle “Viola Music” Oil on Canvas 24″x18″
Lauren Kindle is an artist and writer living in Easton, PA with her husband and two young children. She paints mainly in oils, which are “luscious and satisfying.” Lauren finds inspiration in the world immediately around her: family members and neighbors, local architecture and landscape, the objects that surround her in daily life, other artists’ work, and even her own dreams and fantasies.
Lauren earned a BA from Hampshire College in 2003, studying Arts and Classics. Since then she has studied with Frank Arcuri and Adriano Farinella, including a 2017 summer residency in Civita Castellana, Italy. That same year she was named Artist of the Year by ACE (Arts Community of Easton), Easton, PA. This is Lauren Kindle’s first exhibit at SFA.
